The Cabot 3/4 team values positive behavior in the classroom. We strive to acknowledge students who are following school expectations by being respectful, kind, engaged, and responsible.
We use a clip chart to monitor student behavior. Each student has a clip on Ready to Learn at the start of each day. Positive behaviors allow students to move their way up the chart towards Super Student, while negative behaviors result in clipping down the chart. If a student continues to be disrespectful, unkind, disengaged, or irresponsible, they may need to contact home, but only if they reach the Parent Contact section.
If a student is at Ready to Learn or above at the conclusion of the day, they earn a check for the day. When a student earns four checks or more, they have earned extra recess for Friday afternoon. Students who have not received four checks, are asked to sit with an adult. They take this time to reflect and make a personal goal for the following week.
*There is a new change to the clip chart system. At the conclusion of each day, a student's position on the clip chart is given a point value. On the last Friday of the month, students total their points. If they have 75 points (or more), they may "bank" their earnings for a small reward. Rewards may include: helping out in another classroom, having a guest teacher do a class read aloud, or choose the music for quiet time.
If you have any clip chart questions, please contact Sarah or Claire via email. Thank you!
